Young Warriors

Young Warriors is a therapeutic intervention program currently working in the San Carlos Junior High and Intermediate Schools. The program consists of a therapist for each school and several adult mentors.

Using Apache culture, these mentors teach "Why Try" and "American Indian Life Skills Development" curriculum and help the therapists monitor the academic and behavioral progress of enrolled students.

Outreach is made to families, case management is done with school staff and outside agency referrals, and both before and after school programs are offered. During the summer, several months of weekly sleep-over camp are offered to kids at the Point of Pines Wellness Camp. Wellness topics and social skills training are included with the fun, crafts, good food, physical activities, and entertainment each week.
